Abstract

In his explanation about quoting Isa 42:1-4 in Mt 12:18-21 Jerome remarks that here the evangelist renders the hebraica veritas not wordly, but according to its signification. Matthew the Evangelist quotes often according to the LXX, even in the pericopae which are unique to this gospel. What does it mean that he follows the Hebrew text in these verses?
