Abstract

The importance of the Vulgate lies in its philological accuracy, in its author's familiarity with ancient pagan culture as well as late-ancient Christianity, in his effort to bring the new translation into harmony with traditional reading habits in the individual communities, and in the opening of new possibilities for biblical exegesis.
