In many verses the Bible speaks of a covenant between god and man. The Vulgata uses words as pactum, foedus, testamentum for its Latin translation of the Hebrew and Greek texts. These words are taken from the vocabulary of Roman law. They express liability and reliability of the divine salvation promise.
