Abstract

The variant translations and non-extant renditions of the book of Jesus, Son of Sirach found in the Septuagint and the Vulgate presents a quagmire of interpretations. This article attempts to provide some clarity to these competing translations through a philological and grammatical analysis of Sirach 24: 30–31. The article concludes that the Vulgate better represents Ben Sira’s intended message than does the Septuagint.
