Abstract

This paper deals with the textual problems of Lk 2:14 (the song of the angels) and the effective history of the Latin text hominibus bonae voluntatis: Augustine’s interpretation as human will, Luther’s translation from Greek and traces of the Latin text in his exegetical works, and finally John XXIII’s actualization in his encyclical letter Pacem in terris (1963) are chosen as examples.
